30th International Colloquium of the Corpus Vitrearum & 11th Forum for the Conservation and Technology of Historic Stained Glass

The Colloquium is organised by the Catalan Corpus Vitrearum and the International Corpus Vitrearum in conjunction with the Institut d’Estudis Catalans. The UAI and other local institutions also take part on the organization of this meeting.

Registrations are open. Limited places.

The five day program is divided as follows: There will be one day program of papers and presentations in the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (C/ del Carme, 47. Barcelona), followed by a further three days of papers and presentations in different locations (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Museu d’Art de Cerdanyola, Girona). There will be also optional visits.

The Forum for the Conservation and Technology of Historic Stained Glass will be celebrated from the 8th to the 10th of July.

THE CONCEPT AND FABRICATION OF STAINED GLASS FROM THE MIDDLE AGE TO ART NOUVEAU

The white washed table from Girona provides evidence of the construction process for some of the 14th century windows in Girona Cathedral. The survival of this type of evidence helps us get closer to understanding the different roles within a team that was capable of designing and creating such large expanses of stained glass. The relation between artists and glaziers has changed and developed but has always been part of the history of stained glass. Artists such as Gaudí provide a more recent example of this kind of collaboration.

The 30th Colloquium of the Corpus Vitrearum will be dedicated to the study of the different roles undertaken in large stained glass projects. Who is the author of the final piece? What were the influences in medieval stained glass windows and what can they tell us about its creator? Fine Artists have often been shown to influence stained glass makers, but, can we talk about stained glass artists influencing other disciplines? Should we consider the repetition of designs in the 19th Century as a series or as a new technique representative of this period? What training did the workshop members and stained glass artists have?

Initial proposals are for papers or posters of no more than 2500 characters (including spaces) in length. Abstracts should be accompanied by a CV. If your proposal is accepted, you will be expected to supply an article of 26000 characters (including spaces) for inclusion in the preprints volume. No oral presentation will be accepted without submission of a satisfactory preprint article.

Languages: Oral presentations, preprint articles and posters will be accepted in the three official languages of the Corpus Vitrearum: English, French and German.
